Thursday night football: FSU @ Wake Forest
What would have been a laugher the past two decades leading up until 2006 has really changed the last two seasons. Last year, ACC Champion Wake Forest went into Tallahassee and destroyed FSU 30-0. The game was supposed to go back to the annual WF beat down this year, according to FSU fans. With an all-star supporting coaching staff to go along with Hall of Famer Bobby Bowden, led by new offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher, no way this year's FSU team would fall to a mediocre Wake Forest team that had to hang on against Duke even if it was in Winston Salem.
Not so fast, my friend. Xavier Lee did lead FSU over NCST last weekend (an NCST team that lost their head coach to the FSU assistant coach wishlist last season and is in the toilet), but he was back to his normal inconsistent self Thursday night. It got so bad that FSU decided to try out Drew Weatherford again. Bowden obviously got indecisive and started playing musical mediocre QBs which takes away the little confidence Lee got from the NCST game.
In the end, Wake Forest was able to make the least amount of mistakes and take advantage of FSU turnovers to take a 10 point lead late into the 4th quarter. Jimbo Fisher made some very questionable playcall decisions with no timeouts and the clock running that cost them valuable time, but they were able to bring the game within 3. Anquan Boldin's younger brother, Demir, recovered the onsides kick to beat his older brother's alma mater and get the victory.
#21 FSU falls to 4-2, 1-2 and second to last in the ACC Atlantic. Wake Forest improves to 4-2, 3-1 and a half game back of Boston College in the ACC Atlantic.
