Motor City Bowl, December 26

Central Michigan
vs
Purdue
Dec. 26 / 7:30 p.m. ESPN

Fantastic, we get another regular season rematch. Two out of the last three games this bowl season have been rematches with Boise State and ECU giving us some new blood between the two. At least BYU and UCLA played a close game the first time leading to an even closer second meeting which gave BYU the revenge win. This time we get a Purdue squad that didn't just beat the Chippewas, the Boilermakers won 45-22 after getting up 38-0. If a close game doesn't interest you and offense does, this will certainly be a game worth tuning in for. These two teams put up 1,048 yards of total offense back on September 15th.

The MAC really could use a CMU victory. The MAC champs rolled through their conference slate going 7-1 including a 35-10 win over Miami, OH in the MAC Championship Game. Unfortunately for the MAC's image, CMU has really had trouble when they left conference play. While they were able to beat Army, they lost to Kansas, Purdue, North Dakota State, and Clemson by a combined score of 211 to 57 (57.75 to 14.25). If the MAC every wants to get respect like the Hawaiis, Boises, and Utahs of the world they're going to have to start winning some games out of conference. Beating a Big10 team, even a mediocre one in Purdue, would go a long ways.

For the Big 10, they cannot afford a loss. Already having the league's image tarnished by the joint eggs laid by Michigan and Ohio State in the BCS last season, not to mention Michigan's early season woes and the league's accepted weakness at the big boy table, the Big 10's image can't afford a loss to a MAC team. The big games come later in the coming weeks for the Big 10 with Wisconsin playing Tennessee, Michigan going against Florida, and the big game with Ohio State and LSU, but a loss here would really set the tone for the rest of the bowl season.

With that said, I still see Purdue winning this one. Dan LeFevour is a poor man's Tim Tebow, as he also passed for over 3,000 yards and rushed for over 1,000. CMU will also need Purdue to come out flat and to not care about being in the Motor City Bowl. This probably will be the case in the beginning as Purdue is sure to come out flat. CMU needs to be hot right out of the gate and jump on Purdue early to make this one a game.

For Purdue they need to just come out and run the ball at CMU and not give up. They have the advantage at every position but quarterback and if they take advantage of this they should have no problem. Keep giving the ball to Kory Sheets and Jaycen Taylor and let them run your team to victory. If Purdue can stay focused and not turn the ball over they should win by 2 touchdowns.

Line (wagerline.com): Purdue -7.5, Total 71.0
